Pro Parenting Tip: Retrain Your Brain

behavior & discipline parent support pro parenting tip

I tell you, parenting is challenging enough in a "normal" world without all the moving targets, constant disappointments, and uncertainty of what's going to happen next.

Times like this can spark a lot of fear, anxiety, and overwhelm. 😵

There is a reason for that.

Our brains are wired to focus on the negative because it sees it as a problem that needs to be fixed--and our brains LOVE to fix things. 🧠+🧰

The problem is, many of the things we focus on aren't actually fixable, so we get stuck turning them over and over again in our heads.

In the meantime, we're missing all the POSITIVE things right under our noses! 👃

If we want to see the good stuff, we have to make a conscious effort to look for it. We need to train our brains to let go of trying to "fix" what we can't control and pay attention to what we can.

The cool thing is, the more we practice looking for the good, the easier it gets! We stop even having to try.

And, when we focus on the good, our teens learn to as well. What a great skill to teach them NOW! 👨‍🏫

I encourage you to think about what surprising strengths you've uncovered in yourself and your children over the past few months. What POSITIVE things have come out of this unprecedented year? 💪

I'd love for you to share them with our Private Facebook Group too. Maybe they'll trigger some ideas for other parents who are having trouble finding the good in all of this.

THE BOTTOM LINE

If we want to see the good stuff, we have to make a conscious effort to look for it.
